Chanoyu and Mindfulness - Introduction and Workshop

Miguel Soowa Sensei will introduce among others, the concept of Ichi-go Ichi-e (once in a life time) - deeply rooted in the tradition of Chado under the perspective of mindfulness - a universal human skill. Mindfulness is the human basic capability that consists of intentionally paying attention to the present moment experience as it unfolds.

Workshop content:

  • Introduction among others, the principle of Ichi-go Ichi-e and the mindfulness facets.
  • Chado: the art of mindful movements and gestures.
  • Practice: Cultivating mindfulness of movements and stillness of mind.
  • Drink a bowl of matcha (green tea): A mindfulness practice.

Miguel Soowa (Gran Canaria) is a Tea Ceremony Teacher from the Urasenke School. He has received Chado teachings from Ono Sooko Sensei while spending 4 years in Japan as a Master Degree researcher in psychology at the University of Tsukuba. Miguel’s passion is to share the essence of the present moment by teaching the art of Chanoyu and applying its principles in daily life. He is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Karolinska Institute. He conducts scientific research on mindfulness for health promotion.
