Traditional Japanese performing arts - Nohgaku and Kyogen with Yuu Komaki
23 mars 2025 kl 13.00-14.30

Nohgaku is a traditional Japanese performing art with over 700 years of history. It is one of the world's oldest performing arts still practiced today and is included as a Japanese Intangible Culture by UNESCO.

Nohgaku mainly consists of two parts:
-Noh, which is a stylish and serious form of theatre. It tells stories from mythology and traditional history through song and dance, often using masks.
-Kyogen, which is more humorous and focuses on everyday stories. Japanese actress Yuu Komaki has been practicing Nohgaku, especially Kyogen, for over 50 years. She will talk about Nohgaku and demonstrate Kyogen dance. Participants are also welcome to try out how it feels to dance.

The talk will be given in English.

After the talk, the Japanska Thesällskapet (Chado Urasenke Sweden Tankokai Association) will serve whipped matcha tea together with a Japanese cake (vegan).
